Picnic at the zoo!

Jillian and I spent President's day at the National Zoo (while Mike had to work...bummer.) Lucky for us, the weather was BEAUTIFUL! It was about 60 degrees and sunny! We took the metro there (quite a wiggly adventure) and walked through the little downtown area along with lots of other zoo-going families. Our first stop was to see the Giant Pandas. The baby panda (he's only about 4 years old or so) was hanging out in the distance eating some bamboo so he was hard to see for Jillian. However, he must have known we were there because he got up and happily walked towards us--in his rolly-polly kind of way. All Jillian could say was "BEAR!!!!" It was fun! We then made our way to see the hippos and then the elephants. After that we sat on the grass for a picnic. Much to our surprise, the towers we were sitting by were the ones that the orangutans swing from. As we munched our grapes and crackers 4 orangutans went swinging by! Jillian thought it was a normal thing I guess because she looked at them once or twice but wanted to keep playing with the kids. You'll see in the video. It was really neat to see. We ended our afternoon at Jillian's favorite place, the cow pasture. She just giggled at them in aw! I'm excited for more warm days so that the three of us can go together and really soak in the park. What a wonderful FREE place to have a picnic!
